Standards

HARA is an FMEA. J1739 and AIAG/VDA and IEC 60812 are the same activity expressed in different vocabulary. ISO 9001 formalises the practice of not repeating mistakes.

KF speaks all of them because underneath they are one thing: items that carry events (failure modes, hazards, defects), events that drive actions (safety goals, corrective measures, requirements), and a type system that propagates lessons forward. Each standard below is a view over that model — different terminology, different rating scales, different column names, same primitives.

• ISO 9001 — Quality management. Corrective actions, document control, and continual improvement. The knowledge-inheritance model answers the ASPICE auditor's question directly: how do lessons from past projects reach new ones?
• IEC 60812 — The industry-agnostic FMEA standard. No prescribed scales; teams define their own. KF's four-column format covers the core structure with no extra configuration.
• AIAG/VDA 2019 — The current automotive DFMEA/PFMEA handbook. Action Priority replaces RPN as the risk signal. The Base FMEA maps directly to KF's type system.
• SAE J1739 — Harmonised with AIAG/VDA; adds FMEA-MSR for systems with built-in monitoring. The Generic FMEA concept is the same as the Base FMEA and the same as a KF type.
• ISO 26262 — HARA and the functional safety concept (Part 3). Hazardous events map to events, safety goals to actions, ASIL is calculated automatically. The same model used for every other FMEA in KF.
